I was up early this morning to hose down the plants if there was any frost. It got down to 34.9°F on my deck and a little colder 15' lower at ground level. http://www.fototime.com/2E59C0B35DE9AC2/orig.jpg

Good thing too as most of my C. pubs are over 6' and just too large to put in the basement without major cutting back. Some of the late ones have hundreds of small green pods that just recently set and I would really have hated to lose them. http://www.fototime.com/EA5A068A21CC4C1/orig.jpg

And I am way behind in picking the ripe baccatums etc. Heavy frost on the roof of a neighbor's black Cadillac, but none on the yard & plants. I don't pretend to understand frost chemistry & have seen frost form at as high a temperature as 38°F. All I know to do is to stop fertilizing early September & to hose off the frost before the sun hits it. The most freeze resistant peppers that I have ever had were some Red Peter Peppers. They survived temps that killed 1st year rocotos.
