That's right, Ive also grown a verity called  Red Manzano, its same black
seed, hairy leaves as rocoto, only has more apple shape fruit.
Very nice one but my experience is less hot and a little less tasteful as
rocoto. Also not as much fruit as rocoto... but can be the climate factor
here,

'Chile manzano' is typical name used for C. pubescens in Mexico, and
maybe/probably Central America.  Another name for it from that region is
'chile peron'.

'Rocoto' (and Bolivian variant 'locoto') are names from South America.
