[CH] What do you think...

Some of the Pros on this board have been in business a
lot longer than me... So I put this to them.

I receive a lot of requests for donations from a lot
of people regularly. We go out on a limb for a lot of
orgs. Breast Cancer, Children's Wish, we buy seeds for
Hurricane stricken farmers, etc.

Today I received a most disconcerting request for a
donation.

I don't know if it is a legitimate request or just
someone trying to scam me out of a free bottle of hot
sauce. I know that the US military provides hot sauce
in their ration kits, because we've quoted on the
contracts. Granted, whoever won the contract can't do
what we do... but I digress.

I attach the letter here for you to read... What do
you guys think???

Scam or no???

Dear Ms. Brooks,

I am a volunteer with a military support organization
called Operation Military Pride
(www.OperationMilitaryPride.org), which has been in
existence for the past ten years. Founded by a former
military wife, this is a group of volunteers whose
goal is to support our deployed military men and women
with letters/cards of support and care packages.

As you know, things are far from over in Iraq.
Contrary to what the public believes, these men and
women in "the Sandbox" are still in dire need of
different types of supplies. The military does NOT
necessarily meet their every need. The DMs (Deployed
Military) desperately need food items/snacks, powdered
drink mixes, toiletries, medicinal supplies,
entertainment items, even underclothes and towels.

Operation Military Pride is solely supported by every
day people "adopting" a DM. Word has gotten out about
OMP and its volunteers, and has the best reputation
for helping our needy DMs. But there is a problem: as
the DMs continue to sign up for a much wanted care
package or "adopter", they are exceeding the amount of
volunteers currently enrolled to help support the DMs.

How can Brooks Pepperfire Foods help? By donating some
of your hot sauces! Items such as your Chili Chipotle
Sauce would be a most welcome addition to the
pre-packaged meals that they have been eating for many
months.

Our adopted soldier, SMSgt. Cantrell, is stationed at
a military hospital in Qatar. He serves as a liaison
with the wounded soldiers in the hospital. So, your
gift will reach many soldiers who are "on the mend."

Can I count on you to make a small merchandise
donation that will make a difference in the life of an
American GI?

I would appreciate your help!

Sincerely,

(Name and address removed to protect the potentially
innocent)
