Actually, "togarashi" is just Japanese for chile pepper. They grow large
volumes of two major types of chiles (shishito and santaka), and most of it
goes into Shichi-mi (Seven Spice, sometimes called Nanami - Shi and Nana are
two words for seven, with Shi much less preferred, since it sounds like
another pictogram character which means "death") mix which you find on
tables of Yakitori places everywhere.
