Been a busy two days -- picked the rest of my tomatoes and got another two bushels from the local Hutterite colony. About 120 pounds in all. Put about 70 pounds quartered in pint jars, with a tablespoon or so of chopped serrano peppers in each jar. Ran the rest through the juicer, boiled it down into tomato sauce. Did the same there, put about the same amount of chopped serrano peppers. Adds a nice bit of flavor and a hint of heat. 73 jars of tomatoes -- ought to keep us in 'maters for the next year or so. Made pickled beets too -- added sliced serrano peppers to the jars there too, along with about a quarter teaspoon habanero powder. Made some plain for the non CH'ers in the family. Had a great crop of serranos, as you can probably tell. :-) Like the flavor and they put a good heat in the jar. The pickled beets really grow on a person. They aren't too hot at first, but the heat grows. I can eat however many I want, but the better half eats about two or three and has enough heat. Have a good harvest. Nels in ND
