When I was in Santiago last December when the former president died the town went nuts and my daughter and I watched one of the riots from our hotel room. The next AM we went to the presidential palace down the street, and there had been rioting there too. Coming up from the subway, we were struck in the sinuses and eyes by the tear gas which reminded me of the smell of habs being ground up in my kitchen.
