Far enough (between here and there, there's a small bit of AL, then MS,
then LA, then finally TX)....

I looked at some pics online of leaf cutters---they're a much darker
color than the bugs (may/may not be ants) that I saw.  These things
were very brightly-colored.

I think I remember those ants...if they're the ones I'm thinking of,
the "Never, never, never" above should be "***NEVER, NEVER, NEVER***".
:-)

There's also that big-*ss red wasp.  Mean & nasty.  I never got stung
by one, but I heard enough stories to know I didn't want to be.
