Last year I sold some chile seeds to a lady who was going to Kenya to try to save some elephants. Apparently it was successful. Here's a couple of paragraphs from the e-mail I received today. Let's hope the elephants don't learn to smoke dope:-) "I am just so glad that with the chili ropes and bombs being so successful at keeping most elephants away from the gardens, that spearing and snaring them has almost stopped! Exciting. Thought you might be interested to know that I met a wildlife veterinarian from Holland who was staying at the same tented camp I was. He also knew of the success of the chili ropes. He was aware that there were still some very stubborn bull elephants who managed to break the ropes and get into the gardens. The farmer would then call Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and they would come and try to get rid of the elephant - sometimes having to shoot and kill it. The vet. thought about ways KWS could get rid of the elephant without killing it. Thus he created a small plastic ball filled with capsacin which can be fired from a paint ball gun. He was trying it out with the wildlife authorities last week and they were very excited about it. When the pellet hits the elephant in the chest, it doesn't injure the elephant, the pellet just explodes the capsacin into the trunk and eyes and the elephant takes off. Great stuff going on with chili!!!" Dave TLCC
