I just returned from our annual vacation - this time to Cape Cod and Boston. I found the following on the Cape:

Big Pappi - Monster Double ( a green sauce made with jalapenos and habaneros), Trader Joe's Jalapeno Pepper Hot Sauce (made with red jalapenos) and a new bottle of a favorite - African Rhino Peri-Peri! I usually pay $7 for a bottle. Found it on vacation for $5 for the bottle. Happy was I.

In Boston, in the North End, I found a store that sells all real Italian groceries and found this great spice mix - called Ariosto Aglio e Peperoncino. Made with Garlic, dry chilli, salt, parsley and spinach and it is HOT! Reasonably hot but definitely hot. It was $5 for a 60g shaker. Sooo worth it. They had 3 other varieties but they didn't have chilli in them. If you see it, buy it.

Big Pappi brand sauce is made by David Ortiz, the Red Sox player and the brand has 3 other sauces - more hot than this one. This has a nice heat though. There is one with Bhut Jolokia in it. Didn't buy that one as I thought it would be too hot for Steve to handle (altho he does pretty well with really hot stuff).

When it comes to restaurants I found 2 things that were delicious and pretty hot -

At The 6A Cafe on Route 6A in E. Sandwich, I had a Buffalo Chicken Omelette that was outstanding. It had pieces of boneless chicken in hot sauce inside and some monterey jack cheese.

At Asia Restaurant in Mashpee, in the Mashpee Commons mall area, we had a really great Korean dish - Spicy Korean Calamari. It was outstanding. The rest of the food we had was just ok, but that calamari was hot and excellent.

At Peach Farm, on Tyler Street in Boston's Chinatown, we had a wonderful Spicy Fried Calamari dish and we had it with the house hot sauce - more of a sambal - and it was excellent too. I found out later that the restaurant was one of Julia Child's famous haunts. She loved their Clams with Black Bean Sauce and we had it - an excellent dish along with their Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage and Scallops. OMG!

So all in all, I had some good hot stuff on the vacation. Worth returning to Peach Farm.
