As stated previously, this will be the final Open Fields and pursuant
to that, I have some good news/bad news:

Good news: the chiles are in the ground as of this past Thursday.
Bad news: the chiles are in the ground only as of this past Thursday.

The weather here has been unbelievably wet. This marks the latest
I've ever planted, beating '98(?) by over a week. There were also
almost 1,000 chiles that died off in between the move from the
greenhouse to the fields. Final plant count now will only be about
7,300 total.

On a related side note....

One of the charities supported by the Open Fields is the Jason Baker
Scholarship. It just so happens that the Beyond the Badge 5k is the
Sunday of Open Fields. I intend to go up & run in it that morning, as
are at least one or two other CH's. We'll be back to the fields by
noon. If anyone else is interested in doing the 5 k (it's a run/walk)
or just going up there, drop me a note off list. Teams consist of
anywhere from 4 to 10 people. I will pay for at least one CH team,
two if there is interest. More info can be found at http://heroesofpublicsafety.org/

It is also worth noting that the website was/is designed, built &
maintained by our own Jeff Schickowski :-)
