Hey Gary, I'm on the west coast of the lower peninsula of Michigan about mid way. I usually go for ramps in late April, early May. I think I'll attempt to pickle some this year with sliced serranos, spices etc. It would be good to be able to crack open a jar of pickled ramps in the dead of winter. Imaging adding one to a cocktail. A little gin, tonic, twist of lime, a pickled ramp. :-) Jose > Our ramps are up here in East Central Alabama and we > just had a wild onion dinner for about 30 people with them. > This is a traditional Indian spring cleansing meal... > Scrambled eggs with wild onions (ramps), grape dumplings, > greems (both poke and turnip), hominy with chopped bacon, > sassafras tea, fruit and leafy green salads. > > The ramps are actually a wild garlic, though they are called > wild onions, and I prefer the flavor. > > gary
