Byron, the article you sent out is from 1998 and is almost 18
months old now. One of the problems with the Internet is that old
news is continually being re-circulated.

If you go to http://www.monsanto.com you will find an open letter
dated October 4 1999 from Shipiro to the head of the Rockefeller
Foundation stating that Monsanto will no longer persue "Terminator
Technology."

I believe that I read in the financial news that Delta Land & Pine
has threatened to sue Monsanto over this decision. I'm not saying
that Montsanto isn't still into Genetic Engineering, just that outfits
like RAFI don't usually bother to report changes that might affect
their donations.

Additionally, I keep my ear pretty close to the ground on what goes
on in the pepper biz and am unaware of any Genetically
Engineered Peppers, let alone any coming to market. The last time
I contacted a lab that certifies seeds as being free from genetic
manipulation, (a couple of months ago), they told me that there
was no genetic capsicum manipulation being done. They were
testing soybeans, corn and cotton as I remember.

The only mention I've seen of genetic manipulation of peppers was
a prospectus from someone in a third world country which I
seriously doubt has the technical resources to do much more than
hybridize.
