In answer to your comment and question about the
manure, it goes back to more primitive days, so to
speak, when you cleaned out the barn, you had hot
manure. You do not put hot manure on the garden
because it can kill the seeds and young plants.
The manure needs to be aged, depending on what
kind it is, and what it is mixed with. So if you
have some hot manure, it needs to be put in an
aging system in order to age it properly and make
it safe for your seeds and plants. Not all manure
is hot. It depends on the species of animal and
what they have been eating.

Just make yourself a compost heap if you are not
sure. I do believe, however, that "store bought"
manure has already been properly aged to make it
safe for the garden.

this is one heck of a topic for my first post, but
I have seen people burn out their gardens before,
unaware

I love the chile heads and adore the recipes, keep
them coming people please. Maybe I can get
courageous and post some of my own soon

Linda

ps. Hot manure always used to be used in the
bottoms of cold frames for starting seeds. it
would give off enough heat supposedly to keep the
seed starting medium warm and start the seeds and
plants off to a good start, but it was not used on
the top of the garden or worked in unless it was
really diluted
