I looked up Schmuck in my indefatigable (that's a $10 word!!!) slang
dictionery.T means "a detestable person; an obnoxioua man" (bastard or pri*k)
from Yiddish shmok "enis" literally, "ornament". Didn't we start out with
the family jewels? I think Wm. Safire or some writer in the Sunday NY Times
had a column devoted, in part, to schmuck recently.
