[CH] Chile in chili

I don't use the stuff my self, commercial chili powder (mixes) that is.
But a friend who knows I'm a chile head stumped me with a question I
couldn't answer.
What type of chile powder is used in chili powder (mixes)?
I assume that it is some form of New Mex or maybe paprakia.. but don't know.
So does anybody have the answer?
