Hi

Just came back from the local Safeway after buying some habaneros at $7 a
kilo. That sure beats the $25 a kilo a guy at the local market was asking a
year ago! I thought I'd test them out on my brother-in-law: he chewed into
one and he agreed in a few short words they were hot.

After the disaster of one of my rocotos nearly biting the bullet from beer
overdose earlier this season, I thought my chile season would be pretty
depressing. Another rocoto I have is currently around 1 meter in diameter
growth and is full of small green pods. Various C. baccatum are growing a lot
taller than I expected, with last seasons over-wintered aji amarillo (medium
pod size) with lots of green pods. 3 year old over-wintered scotch bonnet and
red habanero have unripe but otherwise good sized pods on them. My small
glass house is packed at the moment:

- the chinense collection is just starting to produce pods (after a very late
start): habanero (one seedling bought from the local nursery, the rest grown
from seed), red fatalii, yellow fatalii, orange fatalii, red habanero, red
savina habanero, bishop's crown (bought seedling via mail order through Honey
Suckle Cottage in NSW for those interested)
- thai hots are producing lots of little hot pods
- santa fe grande with a few fat medium sized ripening pods
- the rest were started extremely late in the season, and I don't honestly
expect ripe pods from them this season.

Bye, looking forward to eating my cheap habaneros in a lovely salsa
