[CH] Habanero usage in boat paint

For those of you who read my earlier message about US importers inquiring
about habaneros in Yucatan.   There was that curious reference to habanero
usage in "boats."  Dr. Paul Bosland from the Chile Pepper Institute solved
that mystery.   Here is his reply:

Dear Carlos, Capsaicin, the pungency compound, is used as an antifouling
agent in boat paint.  Habaneros having a lot of capsaicin per pound are the
source of the capsaicin used by boat paint manufactures.  Hope this helps.
