My girlfriend swears by this. . .

take Juicy Fruit gum, open a stick, unwrap it & roll it up without touching
it with your hands, drop the roll down the hole - she says there's something
in JuicyFruit that they don't like (and its pretty cheap)

I've also heard they don't like dog hair so stuff some of that down there
(if you have any, that is)
