I have a 4" thick-walled pepper called Mirasol Guajillo that you might be 
referring to, Steve.

I believe it is a de Agua variety ­ and it's great for smoking.

Also try Pasilla Baijo ­ a mildly spicy chile, about 6" long, often dried (I 
think) for use in molés.
