Doomed ?  No way- just Darwin's theory in action. 

On a chile note (just to keep with the theme of the list...) I had a
strange chile plant this summer- it was what is being called an
"ornamental" chile (but very tasty and a respectable heat to boot). I grew
3 plants, all next to each other, no other chile in the garden. 2 of the 3
plants were very bushy, and achieved a maximum height of about 8 inches. 
The third plant got a little strange- in that one side of it got about 2
1/2 feet tall, while the other side stayed at about 8 inches. No shade or
sun blockage, or anything of that type happened to the plants. All produced
the same type and size of chile.  Any ideas ?
