The spacings found on seed packages promote the MAXIUM usage of seed -
of benefit, natch, to the seed companies.

Instead, try as Jim Campell suggested:  triangulation.

This method forgets about row spacing, and instead concentrates on the
space between individual plants.  Like this:

I space my peppers 12" apart - shorter ones in front (closer to South),
so they're not shaded by the bigger ones.

Works great, shades out the weeds, keeps the soil moist.

No pests, lots and lots of peppers!!
