Hello All,
Thanks to everyone (and especially Brent and Jim W. for detailed
responses) who answered on the list and personally regarding my
question of eating fruits of peppers and tomatoes that had been
sprayed with something that was for "ornamentals only." Turned out to
be Safer Japanese Beetle Killer.
Summary of advice: if it was not a systemic poison, it should be OK,
since I washed them off quickly and there is a long period of time
until ripening.
I read the label more carefully and my conclusion is that it is not
a systemic. There is nothing in the "killing action" that says the
poison will be taken up by the roots over time. It says "when sprayed
direcly on insects, this spray will kill the insects listed" and
encourages the user to spray both sides of the leaves.
What a relief. Thanks again to all who replied.
Rose Marie
