[CH] Hominy & disillusion & language

Any UK CHs out there know what hominy might be known as over here? where
can I get some? or what can I substitute - for authenticity: many grain
things look like they would do the job, but . . .

Next enquiry: the doctor brother of a friend of mine claims that an excess
of chiles (sounds weird to me. does such a thing exist?) will cause stomach
ulcers. I do not believe this, but in order to refute the learned man I
need hard chapter and hard verse. I know that some research has been done
on this, but I saw it and thought "yeah, seen that, know that". Now I need
the evidence. Anyone able to help in the enlightenment/disabusion (or even
the disabusement!) of the benighted?

Spelling of chilli, chile, chili? Rest of the English-speaking world?!!
This subject has been aired (vigorously!) before, so suffice it to say
here that it is one of the joys of language that it suits the user in the
user's environment. It should not dictate. And if I've made a mistake with
my pencil I'll use a rubber to put it right :==)))
