About 10 layers of habs and salt. The carboy was sealed
with a pressure bung! After about 3 weeks some sort
of white growth has started growing.

Question: Is this normal? If not what should I do!
Can my habs be rescued?<<

I have the same thing growing in an experimental batch of habs. Normal, may
be. Mine is about 3 months old. When it first appeared (in 2 weeks) I
removed it, heated the mash, added more salt and set aside. It came back,
so I just left it alone. Only effecting the top 1/4 inch. The mash is in a
1/2 gallon mason jar with lid and ring not tighten down so any gas build up
will not cause an unexpected explosion in the cupboard. Does not seem to be
any fermentation action to date (no fizzing or bubbles of any kind).
