Fellow Ch.D.s,
A la Deb, I scarify tough seed coats too: parsley, cilantro, morning glories, 
et cetera, but by rubbing them between sandpaper pieces of any two different 
coarsenesses.  For a few seeds, the nail file works fine but for larger 
amounts the sandpaper sheets save time and really rough up the coat.
