Strange thing is, when I was in Little Havana (Calle Ocho) in Miami, there 
was not a hab in sight.  I wonder if the Cuban expatriate community was 
drawn from higher-class, milder-cooking households.  I read somewhere that 
in the 1950s, Cubans aspired to American cooking - bland, often from a can.  
But that can't be true of everyone.

FWIW there is/was a dance called the Habanera.
