Sounds like they could be a typre of army worm -- a pyrethroid or other such insecticide should take care of them. Try Sevin, Asana, or perhaps Malathion. Nels in ND I have little (no much longer than an inch) black > worms with thin lighter stripes running lengthwise on their miserable little > bodies
