I got tired of waiting for ripe maters, and besides you can never use all
the ripe ones up anyway, so I made FGT's tonight. As usual, my cooking does
not result in recipes, but in methods.

Take one cup of buttermilk. (I used the buttermilk culture that comes in a
box mixed with water). Add flour, corn meal or corn masa (I used the masa)
to make batter about the consistency of pancake batter. (It took about 1/2
cup of masa).

Spice it up. I used some Goya Adobo spice (contains salt, granulated
garlic, pepper and tumeric), some of my home made pepper powder (probably
about a teaspoon) and a handful of chopped fresh basil. Put the batter in
the freezer, until it gets REALLY cold. Slice the tomatoes. About 1/4 inch
is best, you want them to get tender when fried. Coat with batter, dip in
dry flour, cornmeal or masa, and fry in hot oil (I used olive oil) until
golden brown. This amount was sufficient for three medium sized tomatoes.

This batter also makes great onion rings with large sweet onions.
