My sister who lives in El Paso sent me a clipping from the local paper about
the coming chile harvest. The headline reads "Insect Damages NM Chile Crop."
It goes on to say that the beet leafhopper has hit Luna County (Deming)
pretty hard, while infestations were still spotty in Dona Ana (Hatch, Las
Cruces). The bug can damage plants and also spreads curly-top virus. They
are worried that things could get as bad as they were in 1999, when crop
production was halved.

On the other hand, she reported 25# bags of green chiles going for about $7
at the local supermarkets. I thinking road trip again this year!
