Was at my local farm stand for yesterdays corn and tomatoes (Excellent this
year, perfect mix of sun and rain) when I noticed a glint of color off to
the side. During the spring and early summer they sell flats of veggies
and flowers. After a certain time when they have not sold the flats are
"shuffled off to Buffalo" for lack of another phrase. They are put aside
and ignored. There were about 10 or so flats of withered plants labeled
"Long Hots." The plants were close to or completely dead as we had gone
almost 3 weeks without rain.

Clinging to the dessicated plants were small red chiles that actually
looked to be radiating waftums of chile heat. These were surely some of
the most stressed chiles I've seen. Sure enough, I picked one and gave a
bite... Yowie! This was a serious steady burn, mainly a front of the
mouth buzz, but did creep to the back within a minute or so. There was
major staying power too.

I asked the guy at the stand about them and he shrugged his shoulders and
said "help yourself, no charge."

!!!!!!!!! My own private Fresh Fields !!!!!!!!

Well I did and now have a nice little bag full, and have to figure out what
to do with them. Got an image of them at:
