Hi C-H's,

Hah! Just back from Scotland, land of heart stopping food - but no
sugar in the bacon!

I actually managed to cook a fairly authentic enchilada meal there
for the friends we were staying with. Sainsbury's had corn tortillas
and sufficient red and green for me to "have a go". Had to use mild
(equivalent of super sharp in US!) Scottish cheddar in place of
Mexican cheese, and produce my own green enchilada sauce from some
bottled salsas but it turned out OK. The cilantro (for which they use
the term coriander) in the produce section was beautifully cleaned
and ready to use. In fact all of the produce looked to be of high
quality and nicely presented. A bit Japanese in fact!

Wow - I had forgotten the taste of potatoes. New Aryshires boiled in
their skins with fresh butter. Baked King Edwards with farmhouse
cheddar. Oh my poor aching taste buds. Food with FLAVOUR!! Atlantic
salmon. Haggis with Drambuie cream. Scotch pies. Black pudding. Cask
conditioned beer in Scourie of all places!

The Indian restaurant within a short walk of my Mother's flat cooked
me a lamb vindaloo of impressive intensity AND brought me a bowl of
pulverized red chillis just in case.

One wonders why Americans make jokes about UK food.

Petrol - I paid 87p/litre (About $5.25US/gal) in Kinlochbervie where
the fish in our fish n' chips at the Seamen's Mission by the harbour
had travelled all of 30yds to our plates.

Gavin climbed his first "Munro" - Ben Hope.

Brazillian T-shirts sold like hot cakes in Scotland after Brazil
kicked England out of the World Cup. Much supportive comment about
the US performance.

Ooops sorry - back to chile.......... it IS nice to be back too :-)
