They're really pretty care free.  You do have to be careful of any nearby
white pine trees as currants & gooseberries are alternate hosts for White
Pine Blister Rust.  There are now some disease resistant stock now
available, check nursery catalogs such as One Green World.

Or try to find a green grocer that does both retail & wholesale.  We have a
great one in Watertown MA called Russo's.  Try currants, too, they're
wonderful.
