But you may have just saved yourself from eternal damnation, so you 
can relax now :)

My recipe for black eyes:

Usual bean prep if using dried.  Saute onion and chiles in a pot in 
butter or bacon fat (usu. method is to add bacon, naturally). When 
softened, toss in beans and enough water to come 1 inch above beans. 
Cover and simmer until done.  S&P to taste when beans are done. 
Often, as done for red beans, some folks like to mash up some of the 
beans and stir to make the liquid thick. I add a bit of thyme 
sometimes.  Often leave out the meat (a sin in itself) and make it 
vegetarian.

Damn, I like beans. Time to eat...
