As long as we are discussing SPAM (really, one of my favorite foods), I
thought I would share my favorite way to eat this delicacy -- Put a pat of
butter in a nonstick frying pan and fry the sliced SPAM. Remove SPAM from
the pan when done, but (and this is very important) leave all of the grease
(rendered SPAM) in the pan. Pour two beaten eggs into the hot pan, cover
with sliced Velveeta cheese, and cook just until set. Assemble SPAM, egg,
and cheese sandwich on nutritionally worthless white bread (e.g., Wonder or
Sunbeam) using copious amounts of hot sauce (Krakatoa) and enough Hellmann's
(Best Foods) mayonnaise to kill a horse. If you would like to turn this
sandwich into health food (for you California CH's), you may add a slice or
two of tomato, but I think the acid in the tomato cuts the grease of the
sandwich a little too much for my taste. Mmmmmm, I'm getting hungry right
now....

Matt

We never had SPAM when I was a child - my mother was convinced that Treet
(made by Armour as opposed to SPAM made by Hormel) was a superior product.
Growing up SPAM deprived was probably almost as traumatic for me as not
being able to wear penny loafers or cowboy boots since Stride Rite didn't
make anything but ugly shoes in those days. (Happy to report my feet are
pretty close to normal these days).
At any rate, I bought the SPAM at a Big Lots in June and stored it,
intending to break the can open for a 'special' event - which turned out to
be completing a competitive athletic challenge I won't bore anyone with
details about. IMHO, the SPAM sandwich (pan fried slices on whole wheat
with lettuce and tomato, consumed with a very chilled bottle of Old
Peculiar) was a little of a disappointment - and I had to add some Mild to
Wild Firey hot hab sauce to give it a noticeable kick - the 'heat' all
seemed to be in the sauce around the edges. Dog got to finish what was
left - he didn't find it all that hot, either - he gave it a quick 'sniff
test,' then finished it in two bites. It doesn't seem to be moving that
quickly at Big Lots, either, although it might be a good item for your bomb
shelter.
(remembering Monty Python - we've got spam, spam and eggs, spam and bacon,
spam, bacon and egg....spam spam spam spam /spam spam spam spam /spammity
spaaaam, wonderful spammmm!)
