   Tofu isn't exactly my "cup of tea", but it isn't
all bad either.  The fact that it takes on the flavor
of what it's cooked with is what led me to try making
a vegetarian type of jerky.
   If you use it in a recipe, one where the extended
chewing that a jerky needs is not required, the results
can be quite good.  I just don't know any of the
recipes and was trying to keep other ChileHeads from
making the same mistake I made.
   I did try using some textured vegetable protein (TVP)
to try and get a better (read less disgusting) mouthfeel,
but I never had any success and abandoned the project.
TVP, at least the varieties I tried, doesn't absorb the
chile flavors as well as the tofu did.
