John Jeavons, in his book "How to Grow More Vegetables..." (Ten Speed
Press) recommends starting with only a 100 sq. ft. garden.

Jeavons, who specializes in bio-intensive, small-space growing has a
great plan that allows a family of four to grow most of their fruits and
veggies in only 1,300 sq. ft.

Because Jeavons' approach involves double-digging, he suggests working
100 sq. ft. the first year - and tending it very intensively - then
expanding the gardens after each 100 sq. feet is under control.

I like his idea - hard to do, I'll admit - but I like it!
