Best method to avoid to find bugs or any thing in your starting soil in the
future is to 'cook' the soil before using.
Just heat up the oven to 150 deg C ,put the soil you want to use (as dry as
possible to start with)
in a tray and bake it for 20 minutes or so, depending of the amount.
The soil will be 100% bug, fungus  and bacterial free.
Depending on the soil you use.. it can smell a bit... but it works the  best
and without any chemical stuff.
