Squirrels & rabbits here. The horrid desert squirrels. And contrary to popular belief, the squirrels DO eat hot stuff. Especially young pepper plants including the fruit. I tried planting Marigolds in between the peppers, spraying with pepper juice, the electric fence, DeCon (worked for a while). Only thing that has worked so far for squirrels and/or rabbits is to cage the pepper/tomato plants. Instead of caging the critters, cage the plants. My squirrels have eaten no less than 100 pounds of fruit off the apricot, peach & apple trees this season, even with AOL cds hanging. Flash tape works for birds sorta, but not for rodents. And our desert squirrels are supposed to becoming extinct? Give me a very big break. Take my squirrel family of 100 or so, (PLEASE) and next spring you will have no less than a thousand. I tried feeding the dang things to keep them happy and out of my garden, but they just reproduce. The more healthy the critter, more babies. Good luck. and *sigh* Suz in humid hot desert of California. http://home.earthlink.net/~socalsuz
