Hi,

I cut up plastic covers of one liter ice tray's ( 15 cm long 1.5 cm wide)
and write on it with a wax pencil.
This last for many years and you can take it of with a standard pencil
eraser, or you cab clean with hot water and soap.
Don't know if you know wax pencils, but I bought mine ( a bleu one) for
approx $0,50 at a nursery about 6 years ago and still very happy with it!
If you cant get them at the nursery ... they also use these kind of markers
to write (non permanent) on glass, so you might find them at company's who
do window replacement's...

Just my two cents
Kind regards
Rob NL
