These sounded pretty good for a moderate like myself, so I bought one plant from Susan to try this year: "WHITE FIRE: Surprisingly, these small white to red bell-shaped fruits aren't very hot but make a crunchy addition to any mildly spicy dish." It's been a really vibrant plant, and it began producing very well, and fairly quickly. Unfortunately, now that some of them are finally ripening to a nice bright red, I was tempted to munch a slice, thinking it would be maybe just a bit more interesting than a red bell. This was woefully not the case. Great little chiles, don't get me wrong, but these may have to go in the freezer, and be metered out slowly over time. If any of you hell-fire brigade types saw these and took a pass on them, you might want to reconsider for next year. Sure, they aren't Serrano, or maybe even Jalapeno hot, but they sure aren't as mild as the description might seem; and they grow a nice, pretty-darned-thick-for-a-chile, fleshed pod. Which is a problem for someone like me, who usually dries and powders all the pods too hot for his wimpy little palate. These will be a little bit of work to get dried properly. But a labor of love at least. I'm thinking they would be GREAT sliced up in a fresh garden salad, if you aren't in with the moderate lot. -- Erich C-H # 2099 & First Lieutenant of the Moderate Corps Thinking he may need to seriously consider offering up some free powder this fall...
