You can't have too many social clubs & there's been another one started
at Hotel Campbell this evening :-) Most all of the early arrivals to
the fields have ended up here instead of camping in the rain, storms and
mud we're having tonight. In honor of the occasion, I broke out a tiny
little vial (or is that 'vile'?) that a chemist sent me. It contains 1
gram (at $100/gram) of technical grade 99.99% pure Capsaicin- used for
calibrating the HPLC machines. After a little hemming and hawing (and
yes- maybe a beer or two ;-) we broke out the toothpicks and gave it a
whirl.
Impressive, but not quite like you'd think. It truly wasn't as hot as
you'd figure, but the burn went all the way from the lips to the lowest
part of the stomach. Front, back, top, bottom- you name it. And it
hung around awhile also :-) The consensus was the heat was tolerable-
no problem there- but it was weird to have your stomach glow from a
microscopic grain.
And then we followed it up with the bread, Red Savina Habanero cheese,
Chipotle Cheddar cheese, and habanero chocolates :-)
