A while back, I was looking for a source for unroasted NM chiles (Hatch, Las Cruces, etc.) other than directly from the growers. Well, I've given up on that idea. I have found a source for frozen NM chiles from a national grocery chain. Unfortunately, I've only found the chiles at this chain's southern California locations (Anaheim and San Diego).

The grocery store is Albertsons, and the brand is "Bueno - Chopped Green Chile". It comes in a 13 oz. tub, and the last price that I paid for a container was $2.99, 0r $3.68/lb. The ingredients are: Select, roasted New Mexican green chile.

It is prepared and distributed by:
	El Encanto, Inc.
	2001 4th Street SW
	Albuquerque, NM 87102
	1-800-888-7336

You can order by mail, but it's not inexpensive. 12 containers shipped next day air will run you over $130.00! Last week, when I was in San Diego on business, I want to Albertsons and bought 10 containers and brought them back to Washington on the plane in my backpack. Cost: $29.99, Shipping: $0.00!

We've made two batches of Green Chile Stew and had Green Chile Enchiladas twice in one week! If you are near an Albertsons, you search through their frozen food section for the chiles. I keep meaning to ask the frozen food manager at my local Albertsons if they can special order this by the case.

It's not quite the same as roasting and peeling fresh chiles, but it's a whole lot better than going without!
