The Guiness Book of World Records (don't you just love being able to 'name drop' :-P) recently asked me for advice on the same subject. Here's my take on it: The chiles should be ALL de-stemmed and coarse chopped together. They should be served up in a bowl of a known weight. Weigh the bowl afterwords & you'll know the amount of chiles eaten. The reasons for this (Cameron the scientist is rubbing off on me ;-) are many: Chiles are not of a uniform size & so someone could be unfairly penalized by getting some that are larger than the neighbors. Chiles are not of a uniform heat & so someone could be unfairly penalized by getting some that are hotter than the neighbors. Saying that someone ate 'six chiles' doesn't mean as much (in terms of accuracy & verification) as saying that they ate '14 ounces' (or grams or whatever). My two cents. -Jim C Mild to Wild(R)
