FWIW

I made hot beds within my greenhouse 

The box is made with 2x8's,  The bottom of the outside wall is about 16" 
above soil surface

There are peanuts between the box and outside wall for additional 
insulation.

The box is covered with glass and 2" styrafoam insulation at night.

The 25W bulbs add enough heat to keep the plants above 50F when the 
night temps are 18F

There is 8" deep of H.S.  that keeps the plant soil above 40F
