Since only one of the raised beds is in use this year I decided to set the other aside and bake the weeds/bugs out. I pulled the weeds (left over from last fall's procrastination) and tilled it thoroughly. Then I dug 2 trenches lengthwise and spread in some rotted grass clippings. To this I added three trash bags of finely shredded classified paper from work (it's technically not classified after shredding so no laws were broken). I raked the dirt over grass/paper, watered thoroughly, sprinkled some allegedly organic slug bait on and covered it all with a 2mil thick clear plastic dropcloth, held in place by heavy landscape timbers. If all goes well, by next spring the bed will start out without weeds, bugs or cat poop. Hopefully the compost-like additives will add to the mix in a positive way. Scott... love the Honda mini tiller... KCK _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
