[CH] fertilizing chiles

I had some super success this summer with a new fertilizer I
concocted. After lightly strewing kelp meal on my beds, I mixed alfalfa
meal and corn gluten meal (equal amounts) and put a generous scoop (about a
cup or more) at the base of each established chile seedling. I wouldn't
put that much on new seedlings, but these had been out a few weeks. Don't
use corn gluten meal where you plan to plant seeds because it's a
germination inhibitor. After applying the fertilizer and applying a mulch
of grass clippings, I watched the plants closely. They did nothing for a
few days, then their color darked and they began growing. And producing
fruit. Bell peppers are wedged against one another so tightly they're hard
to pick. I'll certainly use this again.
