Dear Pods,

I just received the awful news that my sweetheart Russell Spanard has been
in an accident. His good friend sent me this message:

Wanted to drop you a line to let you know Russ was in a serious card
accident Friday evening.  Either a tree fell on his car or he ran into the
tree.  Thank you IVAN....  The only detail that I know to be accurate is
that it took the EMT/Firemen two hours to cut him out of his car.  According
to his sister Karen, he is in intensive care at Mercy Hospital with multiple
fractures (his whole face, except for forehead).  His eyes are swollen shut
and he has pressure on the brain.  On a good note, he has feeling and
movement in all extremities and not one cut on his body.  I will be visiting
the hospital this evening and will keep you abreast of any changes.

I am shocked and very sad to hear this news and I thought since he's a
Chilehead, Jim and the others wanted to know that he probably won't be
attending Open Fields this year. I will keep you posted.
