"It Was A Very Good Day!!! .as the song goes.

Russ has been moved from the Neurology Continuous Care Unit to The Brain
Injury Rehabilitation Unit. A wide variety of therapy is given here and
there are only 10 beds in the unit. Apparently Russ will stay here for his
recovery. We do not have a time span yet on the length of his stay; it is
too early for the doctors to determine.

There is a noticeable reduction in the eye swelling and he is opening his
eyes more. Russ still is determined to "get out of here!" (a phrase we hear
very often). He is quite restless, changing positions, tapping his feet,
and trying to sit up or get out of bed. They have to sedate him
periodically so that he won't injure himself - he's physically very strong.

Russ had a follow-up brain scan and it shows improvement in all aspects. He
has been given neurosurgical clearance to proceed with his rehabilitation
program. In fact, he walked in the hall twice today with assistance. His
responses are getting more appropriate. He called his father "Dad" on
several occasions. We went in tonight and told him "Mom and Dad are here."
He opened his eyes and said "I know!"

The hospital staff has been fantastic in their attention, concern, and
treatment. They continue to be positive and optimistic about his recovery,
especially with the progress made today.

Visitation is still restricted. Russ will be in the hospital for quite a
while and, as he recovers, he will be better able to receive and respond to
visitors. We'll let you know when your visits will help his recovery. Many
"Get Well" and "Best Wishes for a Speedy Recovery" cards have arrived and
are posted on his bulletin board for him to see and read when he is able.
Keep them coming!
