This statement is ambiguous and doesn't necessarily imply residual effect.
Maybe the Coca-Cola spray works by suffocating by covering with syrup.
And/or maybe it has some "pseudo-residual" effect by suffocating insect
eggs or juveniles, which then aren't around later to feed or reproduce
hence are noticable by their absence.
