[CH] my impression so far

I have had a week or so to digest what it's like being
a member of CH newsgroup. I've asked a few questions
and made a few comments. All replies have been very
friendly.
Prior to being able to post here, I got the digest
version of the list. I still don't know what the
digest interval is. But I seem to be getting all the
postings eventually. I'm thinking about changing my
subscription from digest to get the individual posts,
so that I can reply more efficiently. Anyway, that's
all procedural stuff.
For the content stuff I give the group an A+ not only
because it tracks my interest 100%, but also because
everyone I have met _is cool people_. (Not to mention
knowledgeable.) I realize now that this group has been
going on for years, and I even saw the archives.
Where have I been? Good question. I guess I thought
I was one of only a few chileheads around. But I
failed to look globally. Now, I can say that I have
friends of the same ilk (obsession) that I can call
on, before a vacation, to see if we can stop by to
introduce ourselves. That's how comfortable I feel
here. So I have done homework and intend to do a lot
more as time permits.
Let me offer a brief bio if I haven't done so already
(possible, because of the breakneck speed and quantity
of posts here...)
I have a LAN business here in silicon valley, and am
52 years old. I'm thinking about retiring or at least
changing professions because of the constant change in
technology I have to keep up with. I have a wonderful
wife and three kids: one a college senior in New York,
one a college sophomore in D.C. and a son who will
graduate high school this year. They are all
non-chileheads. (the handkerchief is coming out...)
I can learn a lot here, from everyone's recipes and
advice, and maybe even offer some advice of my own.
Thank you all for the great community and quick
response. I hope I can live up to your reputation!
John
